Stop hiring "good enough" candidates
The real reason you're getting burned by greedy recruitment agencies
This week I had my assistant go through all of the discovery calls the team took the last few months.
We cataloged over a dozen data points from the calls including
if the company had hired overseas before
if the company had used a recruiter before
why the company was now looking to use Go Carpathian to solve their hiring needs.
I wanted to know: why the heck are all these people meeting with us?
The results were VERY interesting.
Most people were looking into Go Carpathian because they couldn’t find candidates who were good enough from their internal team or from external recruiters.
But instead of waiting for better candidates from these sources, they decided to fill their roles with people who were “good enough.”
And the results were universally terrible.
They lost months and several thousand dollars per role on someone who just wasn’t a good fit.
Now, weeks or months later, they’re desperately trying to fill roles that should have been filled months ago.
I wish I could say I was surprised by our findings, but the truth is I’m not.
Most recruiters’ business models aren’t aligned with those of the owners.
They want to extract as much value as possible from each role a business owner brings to them.
That’s why you see companies charge exorbitant markups on talent, huge commissions, and no repeat customers.
And hey, I can see why it’s tempting for recruiters to act like this. Go Carpathian used to charge pretty steep markups on talent.
When you don’t know any better, you just copy what seems to work well in the market.
(Spoiler alert: we don’t use that model anymore)
We changed to our current membership model when we realized charging huge fees for a single role meant we were constantly chasing new clients and unable to build deeper relationships with existing clients.
Once we switched to a trial run + membership model everything changed.
During the trial run, we see if it’s a good fit, and if it is, we solve all of your recruitment needs for just $1,000/month.
In return, you refer other people to us to solve their hiring problems and both sides win.
Instead of being pressured into hiring someone “good enough” the membership model makes us obsessive about learning a client’s “tastes and preferences” to ensure we get them the talent they need.

Until next time,
