It’s almost time to make good on all those “we’ll circle back in the new year” emails.

And for the lucky few who aren’t back today… Monday’s going to be rough.

Cue opening 1,000,000 unread emails (90% promos, 10% someone desperately trying to save Q4).

But over here at Go Carpathian, things didn’t fully stop over the festive period.

Not because anyone had to work.
But because they chose to.

Why Our Team Stayed Online

Many of our Eastern European teammates come from countries like Serbia that follow the Julian calendar.

Which means:

  • Christmas isn’t December 25th

  • It’s January 7th

So while most of the business world was proudly OOO, a portion of our team was still recruiting, reporting, and keeping operations moving, all while those of us who celebrate Christmas on the 25th (myself included) were fully offline.

Cultural Awareness is a Performance Lever

For founders hiring internationally, understanding local holidays and traditions is an A+ move.

When you understand and acknowledge different cultural traditions, it can directly affect your team’s:

  • Availability

  • Energy levels

  • Planning cycles

Here’s what we consistently see when companies get this right:

Higher retention
People don’t leave teams that respect their personal lives and traditions.

Stronger loyalty
Cultural respect builds trust, and trust compounds over time.

Better long-term productivity
Rested teams outperform exhausted ones, especially in Q1.

The Holiday Advantage of International Teams

While many companies effectively pause between December 24th and early January, global teams operate differently.

Staggered holidays mean:

  • Work continues without pressure

  • No one is forced to “power through” family time

  • You can actually disconnect without things breaking

It often feels like getting two workdays for every one your competition gets without burning anyone out.

Where Go Carpathian Fits Into This

International hiring only works when it’s done intentionally.

Our differentiators:

  • Pre-vetted candidates (skills, communication, reliability)

  • Region-specific recruiting expertise

  • Fast hiring timelines without cutting corners

  • Long-term placements

  • Culturally aligned teams that can work U.S. hours with ease

We help you save up to 70% on payroll AND build resilient teams that scale.

A Quick Thought as Q1 Approaches

If you want to get ahead of the competition and start planning for Q1 now, it might be time to make your next hires.

Here’s to a calmer Q1 and a strong start to the year ahead.
